Changi Quilts<\/strong>– WWII Singapore<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On my first quilting CD “One Stitch at a Time”, there’s a song called “Time Flies” about three quilts made by civilian internees at the Changi Prison in Singapore. Suzanne Evans has done exceptional research into the woman who came up with the idea to make them: Ethel Mulvaney, from Manitoulin Island, Canada. We met up with Jan for the first time in Fargo, ND. Jinny Beyer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Jinny is a warm, creative, generous woman, who is one of the “superstars” in the quilt world, and one of its most accomplished proponents. Her annual seminar in Hilton Head, SC was a tradition for many women, and well worth it – a Mecca for many. Alas, 2009 was her last seminar. Jinny also has a shop in Great Falls, Virginia for you to shop in person.

Pam Holland<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We met Pam for the first time in 2001 at the Indian Summer Quilt Show in Fargo, ND. She placed a blow-up kangaroo at my feet when we sang Australian songs! Since then, she’s become internationally known as the wonderful quilt teacher she is, and was the 2003 winner of Best of Show at the Houston Quilt Festival for her 1776 quilt. There is now a book available about this amazing quilt, and her journey to make it.

Based in North Saanich, BC, Daphne has wonderful patterns and supplies for quilters. She specializes in “Give and Take Appliqu\u00e9”, a technique using positive\/negative fused appliqu\u00e9 – and nothing is wasted.\u00a0 She also teaches classes to hundreds of quilters every year. Project Linus<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is a non-profit volunteer organization that provides love, security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer \u201cblanketeers.\u201d To date, they have given over 2 1\/2 million blankets!

Quilt of Belonging<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is the most amazing quilt I’ve ever seen, a life-work of a gifted and dedicated artist:\u00a0Esther Bryan<\/strong>. It is a blanket for the world, for every nation represented in Canada. It is Canada’s most comprehensive – and astonishing – textile project. At Houston International Quilt Festival in 2007, the quilt stopped everyone in their tracks. Unfortunately, Esther died in July, 2022, but the quilt lives on.
